According to speculations there was an alleged plot to abduct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agents during the presidential election in March.
According to Sahara Reporters the intent was to derail the vote tabulation when it was clear that the PDP could lose the election to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The plotters are said to have included former Minister of State for the Niger Delta, Godsay Orubebe, and members of Jega’s state-sponsored security detail. The chairman was supposed to be abducted after Orubebe disrupted the public tabulation by Jega and Resident Election Commissioners (RECs).
It is believed that Jega was going to be abducted by agents working for PDP if he had taken a recess from Orubebe’s disturbance.
It was earlier reported Godson Orubebe, an agent of PDP verbally attacked the INEC chairman at the INEC collation centre Abuja accusing him of giving the APC preferential treatment.
