The Gold-diggers.

When you are born without a silver spoon you need to work hard for a golden one. Even if you were born with one you want to upgrade it to a golden one or diamonds, which is where a goldsmith comes in; People who are better off than you and can help you climb the social ladder faster than you can ever imagine, the longer the ladder the better. Being faced with many financial challenges as a kid, you swear never to allow your kids go through the same, or at least, that is the reason you give for choosing material things that would fade over more lasting things like true love, friendship, maintaining relationships. We all have to sacrifice, you console yourself; we cannot have it all you say when your conscience tries to run a background check on you. You would never be friends with anyone who do not have anything to offer you material wise, you only associate yourself with the big name, birds of a feather flock together don’t they? Will Love pay your bills, spending time with people who care about is just a total waste of time if they cannot add value to your life financially, everything you do, and every time spent must be accounted for with a big fat bank account. Happiness to you is having money to throw around, being able to pay for what you want when you want, being celebrated, being famous, being linked to the big names, having a blossoming career all these will fade. We want to be at the top of the ladder so much we do not care if we are left to ourselves when we finally get there. Who says money can’t buy happiness, when we are comfortable, knowing the wolves is in the forest where it belongs and not at our door, we are able to sit back, relax and enjoy the feeling of being secured. From a very tender age, we are able to tell who is a better goldsmith than another, but is the global economic meltdown not affecting every business? Do you not think that the goldsmiths of today can become the hewers-of-wood of tomorrow? Ask yourself young lady, would you rather be with a rich dude who makes you unhappy than a “broke nigga” who makes you happy. Every relationship you have been in, platonic or romantic has always been on what the other party can offer financially or what they can do to help you live a better life else you keep them at a distance, you do not want losers around you, you do not want to be infected. You want to live your dreams so bad you will do anything to get it. It is not a bad thing to want to be happy and feel secured but when it becomes a priority then something is wrong somewhere, we do not need to admit it but in our race in search of the elusive golden fleece we forget others things which are as important and even ourselves. A good job can get you a good car and a good wardrobe but not necessarily emotional support when you need it, you cannot lay your head a naira bills’ shoulders for it to rub your hair and tell you your worries are not worth your rest of mind. This is the reason we must set our priorities straight and start chasing the things that matters and lasts longer; like friendship, family and building selfless relationships. Have you ever wondered if the void you created in your relationship with friends and family while chasing your dreams can be filled with the thousands of dollars, have you ever thought what would happen if that married boss of yours you clinched to achieve greatness as a lady went back to his family fifteen years after you met him? He had promised to get a divorce and marry you, you have chased away all your suitable suitors or even drove them to marry someone else, I will tell you, you will have all the money in the world but you will still be lonely and miserable. It is not a bad thing to want financial security and all the goodies that come with it but Young woman, while trying to get a life, don’t forget to live.
