According to the Country Representative of WaterAid in Nigeria, Michael Ojo, “About 63.6 million people in Nigeria do not have access to safe drinking water, while 103 million do not have access to sanitation”.
In virtually all urban Nigerian cities, it has now become a routine to see most women and children roaming the streets in search for clean water.
Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, is not left out in this menace and it seem it is even worse in the rock city.
Residents of the city are always in search of water and when they don’t see, they make do with water from different unhealthy sources.
Naij.com photographer went round the city and brought back pictures of women and children hustling for water.

Last year, two children of the same parents drowned in a pond at Enwugba village in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi state when they went to the pond to draw water.
