This is the case of a group of robbers who robbed a church (names withheld) in Ibara GRA area of Abeokuta, Ogun state. SUN reports that the gang struck last Sunday during the church’s anniversary service, disposing members of their valuables and cash, making away with N6 million offering cash also.
However, while the operation was going on, the state Police who came almost at the nick of time after a distress call was put across to them had a showdown with the robbery gang. The police bullets hit the leader of the terror group, Somoye in the leg and when he was searched, a police Bareta pistol was recovered from him.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the force had commenced investigations with a view to ascertain the source of the pistol recovered from the suspected robber.
Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police, said: “Somoye was hit by police bullets and a police pistol was recovered from him and we have been trying to ascertain the source of the pistol.”
It woyld be recalled that just recently, armed robbers attacked attacked First Bank in Ikare Akoko area of Ondo State.
